Julia Rothman, author and illustrator of Farm Anatomy, has just come out with Nature Anatomy, and as soon as I caught a glimpse of it peeking through the new releases section of the library, I knew I had to check it out. It has received rave reviews, and I quickly found out why; the illustrations and general information is presented in such a beautiful way! I particularly love the section on birds. The lovely illustrations are accompanied by brief descriptions and even imitations of some of their calls. It’s just a feast for the eyes!Although the book is by no means a comprehensive collection, it has such interesting tidbits, such as the life cycle of a salmon, phases of the moon, the water cycle, different bodies of water, edible plants (and even a few recipes), the lyme bacteria cycle, animals you might find in your neighborhood, and the anatomy of many creatures and plants, including birds, mushrooms, ferns, ants, butterflies, bees, flowers, and bats, to name just a few. It’s a beautiful, interesting book that will surely encourage a new appreciation for the natural world around us. Check it out!
