A little over a year ago, we traveled to Northern Idaho to film the pilot episode of a television series about off-grid living. We weren’t sure if the show would air, or even what the adventure would reveal for us. We’re so glad we agreed to do it! And though parts of it are truly embarrassing, the whole thing was just really fun. The 45-minute show, Unplugged Nation, will air on FYI at the end of this month. Below is a little clip from one of the houses we checked out. But you have to see the whole show to get a better idea of our experience! It really was amazing and a beautiful part of the country. Hope you enjoy…
And have a lovely weekend!
Update: FYI temporarily took the clip off YouTube and posted it on their site. You should be able to access it here. If not, let me know!
That look on Andrew’s face when he says “we would actually consume more,” he’s trying to be so polite and yet is in total disbelief. That house was beautiful but huge! Highly doubt we get FYI but somehow I gotta see this thing.
So sweet to actually hear your voices 🙂 That house was giant and I agree with Andrew just really not what “off grid” living means at all. I also don’t have cable but will have to see where I can watch it! Can’t wait !
Omg you guys are celebrities! I wish I could see it, can it be ordered on iTunes or anything? Super cool and surreal to see you guys walking and talking after following along in words and pictures for years. You look beautiful!
Totally not what I expected… I thought you were going to be in a cabin in the wilderness!
Thanks, ladies! I’m pretty sure the whole episode will air online somewhere at the end of the month. I’ll be sure to link to it if it does!
And Leslie, I can’t give anything away, but don’t assume anything just yet. That was just a little clip!
Finally!! Lauren, you are so photogenic. The camera loves you!
Hahahaaaa! I love that Andrew is situated as a naysayer throughout the whole thing. We’ll definitely tune in to watch!
xx
I noticed the split second shot of you and the boys going into a house was a very different house, so I’m guessing the trailer is pretty different from the show. I have to say that Andrew totally cracked me up in this. He sounds like the way I talk to the TV in the rare occasion I catch some sort of house related show on TV. My family likes to watch HGTV when we’re holed up somewhere like a hotel with cable – but we all just talk back to the TV which is sort of hilarious. This looks like HGTV, which I know isn’t really what the show is about! Someone should fire the architect that thought a kitchen without windows was a good idea.
You guys look cute on TV.
^^ I guess there was one window, but I’m just thinking that kitchen would look so much better in the big open, floor to ceiling glass areas! I can’t wait til it’s aired and you can share your real thoughts on it!
I mostly enjoyed Andrew’s black eye – but probably because I gave it to him. His false pretense of not enjoying opulent, large places was amusing too. Fiction can be fun!
Congrats! We’ll be right behind you! Hoping we get to see our episode in advance before it airs so we can decide if we dare tell friends and family when it airs. We’ll have to share notes sometime about our experiences.
a long plane ride with a 2 year-old is like a cage fight with Ronda Rousey
Ohhh thanks for sharing the sneak peak. I’m so interested to see the whole episode if it is shared online. I have a feeling that is not the house you spent your time in, but what do I know?! I absolutely love home shows though and loved hearing you all talking about how much space this house has in the clip. My mouth always drops when people on house hunters or some such show are a child free couple and looking at 3,000 square foot houses and saying they seem kind of small. We live in a 1,200 square foot house and I talk all the time about how it’s really more space than we need for our four people and three animals. We would love more outdoor space though… Anyway, can’t wait to watch!
You all did a great job on the pilot and we wish you all the best. Your family is adorable.
We had the honor of participating in a filming for this show as well. You guys were the pioneers for sure. I will follow this blog and hope to hear more.
All the best.
I tried to watch, but the video is private now. Bummer! I look forward to seeing the full episode when it airs, though.
Oh, no! So sorry, Allison! I don’t know why it’s private now. I’ll be sure to link as soon as it’s up.
A multi-million dollar home is not what I think of when I hear “off the grid”?! Should be a cabin in the woods!
