Holy smokes (as Emil would say)! It has been raining for a week straight around here, and before that, days and days of storms. It has been the gloomiest, muddiest, wettest June that I have ever experienced here in St. Louis… our back yard is overgrown (too wet to mow for weeks now) and mushy as a swamp. In between downpours and drizzles, any trek out to our humid back yard is met with swarms of mosquitoes and toes sinking into who-knows-what. And it doesn’t look like there’s any drying out in our near future.
Luckily, the boys enjoyed camp this past week, and Emil even took a couple of naps, which he never does. The weather has forced us to slow down and take it easy. But the rain hasn’t kept us indoors the whole time; there has been much front porch play with magnatiles and library books, and just so we could get some fresh air, we have taken a few walks in the rain to stomp in big puddles and observe all the mushrooms that love the wet weather. But I’ll admit, I’m ready for some sunshine!
We’re planning to celebrate Andrew this Father’s Day. He sure deserves it! Plus, I’m excited to see my sister and nephew as they pass through St. Louis on their way to Alaska (and I wish we could all go with them). Have a wonderful weekend!
I’ve never seen rain like this…. I’m so ready for sunshine!
