Without giving too much away, I can’t help but share this piece of our crazy life right now…
Last Friday we had a guest, Sarah, from Blast Films–ย a London-based TV and Film Production Company with us for four hours. Sarah was amazing- professional and sweet with our boys, and she handled the St. Louis heat like a champ (she is from Ireland and not used to the humidity here). They are considering our family for a show on off-grid living.
It would be an adventure and no doubt an interesting experience for our family. Filming would be over the course of 4 or 5 days in a home designed to be off the power grid somewhere in the states. Would you do it?ย
That sounds like a great adventure! I think we would consider doing something like this for sure, I mean why not, it’s a great opportunity to experience something new. It was not too long ago that we actually lived off the grid. Now days it seems like a scary thought to leave all of the technology behind but when you think about it it may be a nice break. I hope you guys get chosen! Keeping my fingers crossed ๐
Go for it!
So it would be a reality tv show? I’d be cautious about that. Maybe read more about people who experienced being on a show. Obviously some of them are crazy, but the producers can edit things to maximize drama. I’d be nervous about participating in something that opened my family up to strangers judging us — and knowing who we are!
I hate to be the village cynic but I would have too many reservations about this sort of thing. Aside from their own interests in creating drama or watchable TV, I would worry that my kids – who don’t have a grown up say in whether or not they are television – will see this later or their friends will. Add to that, the production company is certainly not doing this for the experience, but are using it as a vehicle to make profits and thus, don’t give away the farm! Why should you provide them with free content so they can rake in cash? But, the caveat is that’s just me.
I’d love to be off the grid for four days! What an exciting opportunity. We sort of do this when we go camping, but I think the last time I was truly off the grid (meaning no cell service and no civilization within reach) was canoeing for a couple weeks up in northern Maine- and very much pre-kids! I’d be nervous about a long stint with kids, but four days sounds perfect.
As far as reality show goes, who knows. I used to love those PBS series where they went back in time (1800 house, colonial house, frontier house)… But there was certainly a ton of personal drama. I’m sure you guys have good instincts to guide you- I’d be watching! ๐
Wow! So cool. You guys have so much fun stuff going on! Can’t wait to hear what happens.
Sounds exciting!
Whoa! That sounds like such a cool opportunity!
I’d say follow your gut, but it sounds like a good match for you all! I would not hesitate to live off grid for the four days, but the being on tv part doesn’t sound as much fun for me and I don’t think I’m quite made for television. ๐ I honestly think you would all be perfect for it, but only if it’s in your comfort zone…even if on the far end of it. I’ll be interested to see what happens!
Do it! I’ve never lived off-the-grid with kids and even my mom had electricity during my kid years, BUT I think it would be a wonderful vacation. Excited to hear what comes of this!
