Milo & Oliver’s Room

Recently we decided to switch Milo and Oliver to bunk beds, which also meant moving them into a different, slightly larger room in our house. And though there is plenty I’d like to do to the room (repainting it is one thing!), I wanted to share how it looks at the moment.DSC_0006DSC_0011DSC_0013

Milo and Oliver share an old antique dresser. It helps to keep their clothing to a minimum and saves space too. What also saves space is keeping most of their toys out of the room. I like to keep it simple and without many distractions- I think our kids do best without a lot of clutter.DSC_0017DSC_0018

The Ikea chair used to be in my office when I was a counselor/school social worker. Taking the legs off made it nice and cozy and kid-sized, the perfect reading nook chair. The room itself is one of my favorites because of all the light. It is  nice and dark in the early morning, then light floods in all afternoon long. It makes us all want to gather in there and read books on our bellies on the rug. DSC_0021DSC_0025We’ve also noticed that both Milo and Oliver have been sleeping so much better (and later!) in their new room. One can only hope that trend continues!

  1. This looks great, and I actually like the color of the walls. What are you doing with their old room? Curious to see…also, loved chatting the other day, gave me lots to think about! Xoxo

  2. it looks great! I was looking for the ladder on the bunkbed, but assuming Milo the climber has the top bunk, I guess it’s not needed!

  3. Ha, yes, Elisa! We had to take the ladder off. Emil was climbing up and trying to jump on the top bunk… not safe! Plus, Milo loves that he is the only one who can climb up there; it certainly gives him his own space!

  4. Ooh I love their room. I’m so impressed with how few toys there are, I would totally do that (if there was anywhere else to put the toys!). It looks like such a cozy and peaceful space.

  5. I love this room!! We just recently moved and I have kept the toys and clutter out of Jackson’s room too. The only toy we have in his room is a lego table and legos (which I guess are many, many toys all in one…) It has enabled him to play and create so much more, than if they were part of the playroom, plus they are not jumbled up with all of the other toys. Like you, I feel like the lack of clutter really allows him to relax and focus! I also happen to love the color of your boy’s room! I am always afraid of dark colors, but the light that comes in really makes it a beautiful space!! I hope they continue to enjoy it!!!
