Frankly, this weekend was the pits (add fart sounds for effect here). Andrew had a lot of work to do- it is a crazy busy time for him and he has some major deadlines looming on the horizon. The weather was freezing and gray and gloomy. Oliver and I both fell flat on our asses on the ice covering our front steps.
I spent the majority of Saturday afternoon in a McDonald’s indoor play area trying not to touch anything and praying for a quick death. It was the only place Oliver wanted to go as a consolation for Milo spending the day at a friend’s birthday party seeing the new Lego movie (okay, I guess that would have been equally hellish), eating his weight in cupcakes, and playing war with his closest guy friends. Later, at home, Emil screamed throughout the entire dinnertime as he tried to push out the turd of a lifetime. It was horrible- the sweat, the screaming, it all reminded me of childbirth, and probably felt like that for him, poor guy. He begged for me to make the poo poo stop, but such is life, I just couldn’t push it out for him.
Some weekends just suck, don’t they? And of course, I smiled at the irony of my flowery post on Friday about how great life is and how much I love love. Blah. Serves me right. Next weekend will be better.
Done with winter? *ha* Alex just said, after I read this to him: “See? I’m not the only traveling, uncaring husband. Andrew sucks too.” Hahahahaha! Also, your use of the word turd is going to carry my mood up throughout the day.
Xoxox
Love and turds both are true that’s for sure. The unsavory Mickey D’s playground must be the equivalent of the trashy TV I need to get through an hour on the elliptical!
Ah Lauren, I had a similar kind of weekend. Wish you lived nearby. We could have commiserated over a cup of coffee — or something stronger.
It will get better :0
xo
I was right there with you last weekend. I try to tell God that I promise I will appreciate the good- no need to throw on the bad for contrast. The good thing is- there’s always next weekend?
I love that your posts are REAL and honest. I hold down the fort while Brent works and travels a ton. I totally hear you about feeling love and gratitude for all that we do have (Happy Valentines!), but also the super challenging times like when flying solo with a working husband and house full of crazy kids during the winter! You are not alone here!
ha ha. hopefully next weekend will be better π
p.s the song in my video is clementine by sara jaffe
Ah, thanks Gaby! How perfect!
Hang in there!!! My awful week just started :o) hubs will be teaching all week AND be at a conference until Saturday while the big kids are home the whole week for their ” february winter break” (what? they just HAD a break in december!!!). It is already nuts but man, it will be SO sweet when the week is over. Sending you positive mama vibes, sometimes we all need some π
Ha! Some weekends do just suck. Mine was actually pretty good this time, except that on Sunday C got sick and I was once again reminded by how hard it must be when AN ACTUAL CHILD is sick ‘cos man is it annoying when your manchild sits around whining about not feeling good π Hope your week is all peaches and cream and sweetness and light, girl.
I’m always up for day drinking if you need it π
Jaime for the win.
I’m pretty sure if we didn’t fall on our asses occasionally and have turdy weekends we wouldn’t appreciate the moments when our hearts burst wide open with love. To really enjoy the latter, you really need some of the former. (However, knowing this doesn’t really make the crappy days any easier. Hang tough.)
Haha! Thanks for sharing Lauren! We can all relate and it sure made me smile! Hope your week is going much better!!
Hahaha, seeing the Lego Movie might’ve actually brightened things up a bit. xD It’s one of the best animated films I have ever seen, ever. I’m saying this as a fully grown woman, lol. It’s so much fun and very heartwarming at the end in a way you would never ever expect from a movie that on the surface looks like a glorified ad (it really really is not). I think all your kids would really love it – it teaches creativity and being you and so many wonderful things…. Just yeah. I highly recommend. Sorry about the sucky weekend though!
Oh it sucks when you get a bad weekend. James works 80 hours a week, so I really live for the week-ends and a bad one can just suck the life out of me. But things always do seem to cycle up and down, so hopefully you are smack in the middle of a blissfully happy week π
