Recently Emil started (stealthily) crawling out of his crib at night and during naps… over and over and over again. He would end up opening his door and wandering around our house and I was a little worried with all of our stairs that he was going to get hurt.
So last week, we decided to take his crib out. Instead of switching it to a toddler bed, we both agreed that a mattress on the floor was the way to go for now. And then we borrowed a door knob baby-proofer for the inside of his door so he couldn’t open it and wander out at night. What happened? Well… he found other things to do in his room, like climb up onto his rocking chair and jump off, then pull the dresser drawers out like steps so he could climb up onto his dresser. So…
… we removed everything. And now?
Yeah. Actually, it’s going a lot better. He has been messing around a bit in there, but for the most part he’s going to sleep much easier. And don’t worry, I closed those windows after I saw him doing this!

I also wanted to thank you for the outpouring of comments, emails, and phone calls regarding my post on my aunt’s health (and the friend disaster). I received good news from my aunt that things are looking good, and we are all hopeful for a speedy recovery. She means the world to so many people, and I know she was touched by the well wishes from you.
I appreciate the kind words on here from people- some of whom I’ve never met. It’s amazing to me how we can touch each other through blogs and other online spaces. Your kindness has a big impact on me, and I just wanted you to know that I read every comment and email, even though I might not be able to respond individually to each and every one. Thank you. The world is so much better when we’re there for each other.
So relieved to hear that things are looking good for your aunt. I’m certain that being surrounded by so much love and support will help her get through and beat it.
And as for Emil, I was reading this with Wyatt next to me in bed and had to scroll past those radiator shots quickly- that’s the last thing I need 🙂 He’s quite the little monkey. I’m glad the bed on the floor is working for him and he’s getting better sleep.
Ha! In our house we call that a “crazy mongoose”. We’ve got one too ;). Except mine is a 3 yr old little girl.
They will take this world by storm.
Oh Emil. What a boy! He will be the one to grow up and become a world traveler; he just has all that curiosity about his own little world! Good luck to you, mama!
Oh! And WONDERFUL news about your aunt!!
Emil reminds me of my oldest. We ended up turning around the door knob to his room so we could lock him inside- he knew how to open those door knob thingies.
It’s amazing how much trouble a little guy can get into, isn’t it? Good luck!
We haven’t done the bed switch either. I am too chicken. 🙂 But, Emil is adorable doing all that dare devil stuff.
I am really happy to hear things are looking positive for your Aunt. ((hugs)). And agree. Amazing how the internet can bring people together, even without ‘meeting’.
