As what seems to be the case in most homes, our kitchen is our most-used room of the house. We cook, brew beer, do dishes, hang out, watch music videos, dance, play music, cook some more, do more dishes. In our kitchen, we have one stool, handed down from Andrew’s aunt years ago. There used to be more, but they broke, and we never replaced them. The boys drag their little white play chairs in and line them up along the counter top. Sometimes Milo sits on the counter. Other times he does dips perched on the corner, propped up on the right angle of the counter’s curve.
We make juice (green for Andrew, carrot-orange for Oliver and Emil), we bake, we surf the internet. Recently Emil has been dragging his little guitar into the kitchen and playing music for us while we prepare dinner. The noise in this room is full, rich, and often raucous. The radio blares while two kids demand two different things at once. The dog weaves underfoot and I beg for everyone to go OUT before you get burned!
Wonderful things happen in the kitchen. Good smells, good talks, good teaching moments. Oliver took his first steps (with guacamole as the reward!) in this kitchen. Oliver and Emil both potty trained here (I know, gross, but what can you do? It’s where everyone is!!!). The kitchen.
I love your photographs! They are so clean so minimalist and tell the story perfectly. Love that juice mustache and all the belly filling delicious foods you’re making 🙂 The kitchen is indeed the best place to be and our family follows the same philosophy. Best memories are made in kitchens (even if its potty training)!
I love visiting your kitchen, too! It’s always fragrant, happy and soulful. It’s a heartwarming place to be and lovely that your back door is usually open to nature! It truly is one of my very favorite places – with you, Andrew and the little ones around!
Love, Mom
In a word: awesome.
So wonderful in all the best ways. I love that your kitchen is so bright and open. We talk each week about how necessary a big kitchen will be when we are finally able to move houses. We spend so much time in there yet ours is so very tiny and lacking in counter and cabinet space. It is still the hub of our home, but I imagine one a bit more like yours, with plenty of room for everyone to live it up. 🙂
You guys are the coolest family. I love how domestic you are. And that armful of chard looks motherforking delicious.
Dude. Potty training in the kitchen is how we roll, too.
