This past weekend, I took Milo to his second circus class at the City Museum. The class runs on Saturday afternoons precisely when Emil takes his nap and Oliver needs serious alone time, so I was able to spend some much-needed one-on-one time with my biggest boy while the two littles stayed at home with Andrew. It was so great to have him all to myself for an hour and a half- we talked about all sorts of things on the drive there. I have missed him since he started kindergarten full time!
Nice also is that this class just so happens to be at Milo’s favorite place in the world. It truly is remarkable, and in the three years we have lived in St. Louis, we still haven’t been able to explore every square inch of the City Museum. It’s just so big! But I have a feeling we will see every last bit of it eventually… especially since we now have an excuse after Milo’s class every week!
Which brings me back to the purpose of this post. Milo. And the circus. This class couldn’t be better suited to him and his ability, interest, and attention span. It is equal parts ballet, gymnastics, and crazy town. He is encouraged to jump, and jump as high as possible!
The pure excitement and joy that he showed to get started, pay attention, and do the exact movements his instructors were teaching him just shone through. He was attentive, excited, and all smiles during the hour.
It was also evident over the days that followed the class- he tried over and over to replicate the environment so he could practice his tricks at home, or at the playground. A parent asked if he was planning to join the circus when we were at the playground the other day. And he said… well, yes!
I love watching this guy grow and change, and learn what really interests him. Using his body and strength is his comfort zone right now. And when you see your child flourishing, whether it is in reading, or swimming, art or music, or robotics, or acting or dancing or singing, it is truly amazing and brings a sense of balance to the equation. Their sense of self and pride just shine through.
Plus, we get to explore this place every Saturday, in bits and pieces… until we’ve seen it all.
I’ve been reflecting on a lot of these same sentiments lately…..is it because Summer is coming to a close? I don’t know but I sure feel tuned in to the passing of time with my guys and even the baby.
This Circus class looks and sounds positively amazing!! Such a great creative outlet for all that boy energy. I have a feeling Augie and Liam would really love it too. I am so happy you get to have this special one-on-one time with Milo – it’s so precious, isn’t it? He is going to remember this time with you as one of his top childhood memories no doubt.
All your boys are looking cute as ever and getting big. Emil and Oliver are really resembling one another!
Glad all is well over there…

P.S. And you look so darn cute by the way – LOVE your shorts. I totally did not fulfill my goal of finding (or making) the perfect cutoffs. Next year!
That place looks amazing, you guys have so many exciting spots around you. It’s fun to get to know a city that I was so unfamiliar with from afar (I sometimes find myself in conversation mentioning that I have a friend in St. Louis and then stmbling to explain who to someone who isn’t blog savvy :).
Also, as Cortnie said, you look great. What I wouldn’t give to look like that in shorts. This pregnancy has really left me with a challenge to get back into shorts wearing shape.
oh my gosh! that class looks amazing! how fun? like wish-i-was-6-and-lived-in-st.-louis kind of fun!! and how great that you can have that one on one day. perfect.
Dang, dood. That place looks like so much fun and it makes me wish we had more awesome stuff like that in my little town.
