Dress That Mama: Hats & Heat

DSC_0009

It’s hot. After returning from an unseasonably chilly trip to Paris where I got used to wearing jeans and long sleeves and layers and socks (!) again, it was tough to come back to temperatures 40 degrees hotter. Don’t get me wrong, I love summer! Even temperatures in the upper 80’s are perfect in my opinion. But when we start reaching triple digits, I’m out. Of patience, that is.

Lately I’ve been wearing as little clothing as possible while still trying to retain a shred of decency. When not in my swimsuit, I’m generally wearing shorts and a tank top or sleeveless cotton shirt like this one. I know, pretty boring… but we do what we have to do!

I’ve found that keeping the sun off my face and shoulders is helping slightly. Floppy big hats are everywhere these days. Here are a few of my favorites:

Neutral and feminine

Red and shape-able

This one is my favorite, a two-tone beauty! (But I could never justify the price tag)

Simple and affordable!

Do you wear hats in the summer? What are some of your favorite styles?

  1. Love the hat! I am the worst with hats. James will never take them off and I won’t ever put them on… but with my pale skin I should. You look great, as always.

  2. Sweet baby Jesus, a hat that is nearly $300!!!! It is definitely a cute hat, but I don’t think I could ever spend that much money on a floppy hat. (Where in the hell are people getting the kind of money that they could toss several hundred dollars down for a motherscratching hat, anyway?)

I really like your shirt. It’s simple and pretty, while also having a cool pattern.

  3. I’m just on the hat wagon this summer vowing to HALT sun damage. Last year while pregnant I did a lot of swimming and got all kinds of age spots/freckles! Daily steady exposure during peak sun hours… therapeutic but murder on my face. Hence, all pro hat decisions are very wise I think!

  4. Adorable! I love that tank, and the hat is perfect. I wear a hat around the garden and yard, but out in public I tend not to wear one because of the dreaded hat-head. I’ll have to go back and check out your Paris pictures! I’m still catching up. I love Paris!

  5. Love your top! I am a big fan of hats but have an abnormally large head so they don’t find their way onto my noggin very often. 🙂

  6. wowsers but you look fabulous! I have just started (2nd week last week!) a fashion linkup! every Tuesday called shiny t tuesday…it comes with a prompt for the next week! Last weeks prompt was dressing square and although they are rectangles your top print would so fit!! You should come and link, the linky’s still open! This tuesday has the prompt of ?ON? come and check it out. Your hat is awesome, 1 very cool and beautiful mama xxxxx

  7. oh it’s Uzi!? i just tried on one of their dresses the other day! i’m normally a 2 or xs/s, do you think the small would be good?
