Our 4th of July and subsequent weekend were spent with various friends and neighbors and felt like an extra vacation for our family. It felt really good to not worry about the car accident and the feeling of being in limbo with sorting out that mess, finding a new car, dealing with insurance agents and medical bills… we set it all aside for the weekend and just enjoyed the holiday.

Andrew and I hosted a cookout at our house on the 4th, followed by a late night of sparklers and smoke bombs and bottle rockets with our kids in the park. And then, we all decided to extend the fun to Saturday and Sunday as well! We headed over to our friends Brian and Jamie’s house on Saturday with JJ and Elisha, then spent Sunday fishing and picnicking and boating with our friends Ingrid and Brent (more on that tomorrow). Needless to say, our boys were worn out!DSC_0018

We are so lucky to have a few groups of friends here, and this weekend two of those groups came together when we introduced one to the other. It ended up extending our celebration of the season. We ate and laughed and enjoyed our kids. It was relaxing and exhausting in the best way. Summer parties are the best!DSC_0009

Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July!

  1. a) You are so super cute, and I love your little cinnamon bun side braids.

    b) Heck yes, pink smoke bombs. That is a key ingredient to a fun 4th with kids.

    c) Cornhole is a fun(ish) game with such an unfortunate name. Why not just “bean bag toss”? But no. Cornhole. And since I’m gross, I always snicker like Beavis and Butthead.

  2. Oh, Jane! If you’re referring to the beautiful white house in the first picture, it’s actually our friends’ house. It IS amazing, though!
