Packing for Paris

I’m packing light for our Paris trip… to me there’s nothing worse than lugging around a huge suitcase with 10 pounds of shoes and unnecessary items when traveling abroad. I want to focus on the city, not my stuff! So here is what I’m taking, more or less (I left the underthings and toiletries out of the photos, but one of these pairs of shoes I will be wearing on the airplane, as well as one of these outfits).

Seven outfits for eight days, plus two extra tank tops for mixing and matching with a skirt or jeans for the extra day… or in case I spill something on myself, which, if you ask Andrew, is highly likely. I plan on accessorizing with exactly one belt, two necklaces, one ring, a flower halo for my hair, a pair of sunglasses, and a bandana. And of course, the shoes I chose are my most comfortable for walking, which we plan on doing quite a bit of! The bag above will serve as my carry-on and purse for the week. I will stuff essentials in the bottom, then leave room at the top for treasures we find on our adventures, or delicious snacks we find on our long walks. And thanks to Maggie, we have Arrondissement and French translation books to help guide our way!Β DSC_0088

Oh, and if there’s room in my bag, I’ll bring this tablecloth, which doubles as a picnic blanket.DSC_0007

It folds up extra small and is nice and lightweight. Plus, I can picture us spread out on it beneath the Eiffel Tower with a baguette and some cheese for an afternoon of doing, well, nothing!

I’ve also been drooling over various Parisian vintage stores (thank you to everyone for the suggestions!), in which I hope to score a vintage bag and maybe a leather moto jacket if I can- which is another reason to pack light: if I leave a little space in my bag on the way there, I can bring a few things back. I can’t wait!!!

Am I missing anything? What would you take to Paris?

  1. This is going to be a trip of a lifetime! Enjoy yourselves! Can’t wait to hear all about it when you return.

  2. I would bring something with long sleeves. We went at the end of July two years ago, and I needed long sleeves most nights we were there. Have a wonderful time!

  3. I know nothing about clothes (which is all too evident by how I dress), but don’t forget a book for the plane and your camera! I can’t wait to see some of your pictures from Paris.

  4. OH. MY. GOSH. I got chills looking at all of your cuteness! I absolutely LOVE your style and you are going to be SO ADORABLE abroad! I am so jelly of the fun you will have!!! Take so many pictures so we can live vicariously through you!!! HOW FUN!!! Also… HAVE FUN!!! So excited for you!

  5. Also… you like how many of these !!!! I used? πŸ™‚ I am excited for you but I realize it’s still only 8:30 in the morning. I am mostly just excited because I AM! πŸ™‚ You will look so awesome and have so much fun!

  6. 1. you’re a bonafide style icon.
    2. warm sweater or jacket might be nice, though you could get one there!
    3. have an amazing trip!

  7. I think you will look amazing in Paris! Have a wonderful time. Can’t wait to see all the pictures.

  8. Hi !
You should take something warm and rain jackets. It’s stormy those days. Have a Nice trip !

  9. Such great outfits! My very stylish family (I did not inherit that style when it comes to clothes) always pack so light and wear the same dress styled with different scarves etc. for days. It’s very impressive to me.

I echo the suggestions for a few warmer layers. I’ve also been turned away from a visiting a few churches for having bare shoulders or knees… but that was all in more rural areas so I doubt it will be an issue right in Paris. Great food, increadable flea markets, every museum you could imagine, and glorious architecture… what more could you ask for?!

  10. You would probably already do this, but just in case I will share one thing we wished we had done in Paris: buy a piece of art. There are so many beautiful, little galleries, and treasures to be had. I hope you have an amazing time! It is a magical place. Enjoy the eating — YUM!

(Oh, and bring a light weight duffle bag you can fold up, but stick things in for your return trip.)

  11. The height of chic! The French will adore you! Agreed on the light jacket or sweater. And a great idea to buy a piece of art. Travel safe! Au Revior.

  12. Thanks, you guys!

The suggestions to bring warm clothing and rain gear were right on! It was freezing cold for the end of June on some days, and I ended up buying a jacket to layer over my two sweaters and scarf that I brought!

I also ditched a couple of the skirts and tanks for a longer, warmer skirt and some long sleeves. But some of the locals relayed that it was unseasonably cold this year. I hear July and August are generally much warmer.

  13. Bonjour!! Lovely post!!
Just wondering, where are each of the pairs of shoes from? The outfits you are packing are SO CHIC. Ugh, I’m jealous.

  14. Ha, ha! No problem! The red dress is from Anthropologie a couple seasons back, but they seem to keep restocking it every year in different colors (they also had it in white with black scalloped stripes and it was very cute! Keep an eye out for it!).

The jumpsuit was also from Anthropologie, but they no longer carry it. They do have some other cute options, though!
