Please don’t get tired of my braided hair. The truth is, it is really simple. It keeps my long hair off my neck in the heat, half-grown-out bangs out of my eyes better than any other hairstyle I’ve found, and makes it easier to not wash my hair every day, which I’ve heard is better for hair… I don’t know, how often do you wash yours?
Plus, you know something funny? Everyone keeps coming up to me with a comment. I’ve had several older gentlemen and ladies say that it reminds them of how their parents used to do their hair (!), and younger women saying they love it and ask me how I learned. I’ve had little girls compliment it. And you know, it’s so hilarious, because I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to my hair, and this hairstyle is really ridiculously easy. Here’s how:
If you have medium-to-long hair, this should work for you.
Part hair however you usually do, but make sure to part the back down the middle. separate hair into two large sections, tying off one like a pigtail with a rubber band while you braid the other side. Braid hair like you would if you were doing braided pigtails on a little girl, only work the braid forward and up rather than just braiding down. If you have bangs, you can either leave them forward, or for longer bangs (like mine), braid them into the hair as you move up the hairline. This will also help hold your braid in place. Secure with a clear rubber band, and repeat on opposite side. You should have two ends that you can tuck over or under each other and secure with a couple of bobby pins.
That’s it!
Happy Wednesday!
Lauren, I love your hair and white blouse with jeans! A very feminine step up from pony tail and t-shirt. I’ve been playing with “up” hairstyles to keeps things under control like crazy cowlicks and frizzies. Anything with braids involved does make people think it is crazy fancy.
I can’t get enough white tops either, yours is particularly nice: delicate details, open neckline and cap sleeves. Not fussy but no plain white tee by any stretch of the imagination!
Love the pretty blouse with the sassy jeans. Nice contrast!
I started washing my hair every other day about a year ago simply to save time. It was greasy on the second day of wear for a couple of weeks, but now my hair has adjusted. On days that’s it’s greasier than I’d like, I use a little spray-in dry shampoo.
BTW, I love the idea of a white blouse or any white article of clothing, but almost never wear white for fear of staining especially with young children. Any ideas about how to get over this?
Ann, I wear a lot of white, and get dirty a lot. I recommend pretreating stains, and not buying a lot of dry-clean-only garments. I’ve also heard people swear by stain sticks that you can throw in your purse!
I love your braids. So very pretty. And I am totally one of the creepers who kept asking how you did your hair. Haaaaa! I’ve started doing a modified version of this since my hair isn’t long enough to braid from the bottom up – I just braid my growing out bangs and pin them back.
I wear a lot of white, too, and have found that Oxy Clean really is magic and is eco-friendly.
Your hair style made an appearance at Cannes. 🙂 Hopefully you’ve never had a wardrobe malfunction like Rosario however!

Oh and I meant to say too – I wash my hair every other day and also have experimented with fun updos on the days when I don’t wash it.
Very nice look. Pairing the hair and blouse with jeans keeps it fresh. I wear my hair braided like that too. There is no way I could manage to wash it every day, I need it out of the way, and the braids are cuter than a “cowpat” bun.
I love little white blouses too. I stick with cotton so I can machine wash, pretreatment with a drop of dish soap, and do an overnight soak with oxygen bleach every so often. Oh, and aprons! Especially ones with a big pocket in the front for storing handkerchiefs or little boy collectables.
I love your blog and all your dress that mama posts. This might be a random question, but you have such amazing skin! What do you use on your face? Did you ever have a problem with skin issues when you were pregnant? I’m recently pregnant and it hasn’t been giving me that glow…it’s been a nightmare! Thanks so much!!
Thank you, Margaret! I use Clinique skincare, but really my skin isn’t that great up close… maybe only looks that way in pictures! My skin is on the dry side, so I find that daily moisturizer from Clinique is working for me!
I did have some skin issues during pregnancy- namely dry patches and some dark spots which have cleared up since having my babies, thank goodness! My recommendation is to drink plenty of water, don’t skimp on fatty acids (like those in walnuts and salmon, for instance), and eat avocados as often as you can stand!
