Screw it

You can’t tell from the pictures, but our little Oliver is quickly gaining and turning into quite a pudgy little baby. We went to our third pediatric appointment today. Our pediatrician was shocked as he told us that Oliver has gained 21 ounces in the past 11 days!!! He now weighs 7lbs, 5oz. To put things in perspective, the pediatrician said that they typically see newborns gain about 1/2 an ounce a day. Oliver is gaining 2 ounces a day. Good grief. I couldn’t be happier, because I know he is making up for lost time. He is a great eater. At this rate, he will be just as chubby as Milo was as an infant.

Not the best picture, I know… but check out Oliver’s profile on the right. 100% Andrew.

Milo on the train at Cabin John (a really cool playground)

Milo is still adjusting to being a big brother. He loves his baby brother, and has never taken his frustration out on Oliver. In fact, we have to worry more about Milo smothering Oliver with all his kisses, hugs, and love than we do Milo hurting Oliver on purpose or out of jealousy. But it is an adjustment. Oliver is literally attached to me all day and night, and Milo isn’t able to be as physically close to me as he used to. I am mindful to give Milo tons of extra hugs and snuggles, but he definitely has to wait for them. Poor guy. I guess this is where all the turn-taking comes in! I know that both my boys will benefit from the experience of having a brother, but I do feel really guilty sometimes that Milo is not getting a lot of Mommy time. However, his Daddy time is through the roof… in a good way! Milo and Andrew continue to build on their very close relationship. It’s amazing to see.

And today is Andrew’s 29th birthday! One more year, and you are no longer a young buck in your 20’s. Of course, since I’m 6 months older, I guess I’m warning myself more than you. Anyway, happy birthday to the most amazing man- husband, father, and friend. You continue to make me laugh on a daily basis, and teach me patience and grace as a parent. I am so lucky to have you!

On the 24th, Andrew and I also passed the 10-year mark of being together. Can you believe we started dating when we were teenagers? Crazy. Here’s to the next 10!
