Closet Tour

I’ve shown you the inside of our refrigerator and Andrew’s closet, so I may as well show you into my closet! Just don’t ever ask to see the inside of my car. The answer will be no.

When we first moved into this big old place, I made it my mission to have a nice closet. It was already there, but just needed some little details to make it my own. Plus, it was pretty dirty and scuffed-up. I painted the walls a pale light blue that was leftover from painting Oliver’s nursery at the time, and left the shelves white. I drilled in the hooks for belts, but I only own two belts, so I decided to hang my bathing suits and favorite scarf there instead.Β DSC_0160

In the upper left corner, I have a basket filled with rolled stockings, tights, and thigh-highs and I keep some extra bedding on the shelf below. On shoes: having them mostly up off the floor is nice because it makes it much easier to clean around them. Plus, I can see everything and they aren’t smooshed in a shoe rack. Also, if you have tall boots that you love, keep them nice by stuffing an old stocking full of newspaper or tissue inside when you’re not using them. This keeps them from slumping over and creasing too much.Β DSC_0161I also group clothing not only according to type (sweaters with sweaters, jeans and jean shorts, etc.) but also to color. I find it so much easier to choose things this way. I don’t know why, but it’s visually appealing to me and simplifies my life!Β DSC_0162

Dresses and long skirts go on one side; shirts and mid- to short-length skirts on the other. I also have recently put lots of family photos in my closet in view when I walk in. We have so much artwork on our walls, but very few family shots. I like to see these first thing in the morning and right before I go to bed at night. It makes the space feel very special to me.Β DSC_0166There’s my closet! What’s in yours?

  1. I love your closet! It looks like such a nice little room, and so organized!

I separate my shirts by long sleeve, short sleeve, and tank. And then in each of those groupings, I organize them in rainbow order. It sounds kind of psycho, but it makes finding stuff a lot easier.

Wade has way more clothes than I do and I always tease him that he’s more of a girl than I am when it comes to clothes. Ha.

  2. I love your house tours! Did Andrew love his closet? I’m a bin/label maker obsessed organizer. People think I’m nuts, but I never lose stuff!

  3. Thanks, ladies. And yes, Jamie, I think he liked it, though I missed the “surprise” reaction because he read about it on the blog before he returned home to see it in person! Whoops!

  4. So clean and organized… and edited too! I definately need some hep with clothing solutions, and I need to get rid of some things too when I’m not pregnant and can actually try stuff on again. It looks like you have fewer clothes than Andrew, but it might just be the pictures πŸ™‚

  5. I do have fewer clothes than Andrew, but I also don’t have to own a bunch of suits and fancy office clothes! It’s safe to say that I used to own as many, if not more, clothes than Andrew before I did a complete wardrobe overhaul and got rid of half of my clothes and shoes a while back! I actually love having a pared-down wardrobe. It makes decisions so much easier in the morning!

  6. I think that’s one of the few spaces in your house that I never saw until now! It looks like every single item in there is beautiful and treasured.

Mine? A garment rack against the wall of my bedroom, organized by type and color. (All hanging, I can’t be bothered to fold.)

  7. What a nice closet! I am so jealous. We also have very small, old closets and have to rotate our clothes out seasonally. One day we’ll either renovate or move and I can have my dream closet. πŸ™‚

  8. Girl, you so organized! Gosh, I miss my walk-in-closets so much out here, with my overstuffed dressers and wardrobes and all. Sheesh!

  9. I love that you just have stuff you actually wear in there…I keep everything! I am a total pack rat. I still have the shirt I wore for my first date with my now husband…from 9 years ago…I have my childhood jewelry box filled with every little thing I had as a little girl…and lots more…but you’ve inspired me to at least get rid of some non sentimental things that I’ll definitely never wear again!

  10. It looks sooo good, Lauren! I am working with SUCH a small closet and it is a disaster right now.. I was just saying last night that I want to move just to get a new closet! lol I think you’ve inspired me to do some organizing tonight πŸ™‚

  11. There is nothing like a fully stocked and organized closet. I used to have a walk in closet and had to part ways when we bought our house. I have a large closet, but nothing so roomy!
