Dress That Mama: Geometry

DSC_0001Please excuse the crooked shot today, but I had to include it since Milo took the picture!

Lately I have been so drawn to the trend of geometric shapes: triangles (like the above necklace), rectangles, squares, etc. just catch my eye. But I don’t like it all crowded and fussy, just simple and easy to mix and match with other prints (like polka dots!). Here are a few geometric things I’ve been loving from around the web:

This simple but interesting tank top

This triangle ring is just so great and simple

These placemats, which I think could pair so nicely with these floral plates!

This colorful squares quilt

Any and all of the baby leggings sold on this website

This shirt!

The awesome bandana on this little dude

Yep. I’m obsessed. Happy May 1st! We are looking forward to having an old friend over for dinner tonight. We’ll be grilling out (surprise, surprise) since the weather is supposed to be awesome! Hope the day treats you well.

P.s.- I’m completely out of makeup now that the supply my sister gave me ran out (at least I still have lipstick!). I have pretty sensitive, somewhat dry skin. Any recommendations on a good skincare line that you love???? Help!

  1. Yeah! What Lauren said! While polka dots are my obsession, I’m also really into triangles. Squares and rectangles tho, I don’t know…
    You of course look fabulous.

  2. You look great! And I love those baby leggings.

Are you looking for makeup or skin care? For skin care I love Paula’s Choice. You can only buy it online, but their customer service is great & super helpful. If you call, they’ll help you figure out what to buy. For makeup I usually buy Clinique, seems to work well on my sensitive skin.

We’re finally getting warm sunny weather here, too. Hooray for spring!

  3. I like this a lot, you make the geometry still look soft and feminine, not scary and 80’s. As for skin care, I’ve tried it all. I really like the Yes to Cucumbers wash and wipes: gentle, low (but not absent of) chemicals and inexpensive. My skin is crazy sensitive but has never looked so good. Makeup wise, I’m trying to wean myself off it, but still don’t spring for any fancy brands. I did get some red lipstick yesterday…was inspired, have to work up the guts to wearing it still!

  4. Thanks for the suggestions! I’ve had a lot of people recommend Clinique, so I might just give it a try. Great skincare ideas, too!

  5. Love the geometrics too! I know nothing about make-up. I use Prescriptives concealer for my deep dark circles and everything else is typically a Target purchase. As I get older, it’s something I wish that I knew (or cared!) more about. I also like the YES to wipes, I say yes to Blueberries 🙂

  6. They have the most rad geometric leggings (triangles) at Forever21 right now. I wannnnneeeeee!!!

Have a great dinner and as for makeup, I buy the sale stuff. I’m always hesitant to invest in a bottle of something I don’t know I’ll love. The one exception? BadGal mascara from benefit. Love it.

  7. This makes me want to say, “YAY GEOMETRY!” in a robot voice.

I use ZuZu Luxe makeup because I’m allergic to motherfreaking everything, and it’s been pretty great. This one, specifically (although I know you would have to use a different color than me because I’m an albino) : http://www.pharmaca.com/Pressed-Base/Zuzu-Luxe-Foundation-Dual-Powder-D-4-10g/521125/5010-5035-5205/Product

Also, I put it on with a kabuki brush because the sponge thingy they include with the makeup puts it on too heavy and gives that weird too-much-makeup-corpse look.

  8. Lauren, I love your blog! You should try Arbonne, it’s purely botanical so it’s great for your skin. I recently started using the products & I’m obsessed. Let me know if you’re interested in checking it out. Hope all is well!
