Milo’s Stitches

DSC_0009Yesterday afternoon, Milo, Oliver, Emil and I were just beginning to pot some flowers on the back deck. I asked Milo to hand me a small tray of flowers, only he tripped walking over to them and fell hard onto an empty flowerpot. Flowerpot 1, eyebrow 0.

5 hours in an ER with 3 children by myself was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life. But we got to eat peanut butter M&M’s and cherry popsicles for dinner! And made a fort in the triage room! And blow up extra large hospital gloves like balloons! We made it (Emil barely), and Milo was actually pretty proud of the new four stitches he would be able to show off to his classmates this morning.

Plus, now he and Oliver will have matching scars. Same eyebrow and everything. They really do everything together.

Have a wonderful weekend.

P.s.- I’m really hoping to never have to title a blog post “Emil’s Stitches,” but it’s not looking good at this rate…

  1. Oh no! Poor Milo! An ER visit is hard enough with ONE child sometimes! But THREE!? I seriously don’t know how you did that…really.

Give Milo a smooch from us, and tell him Ben thinks the stitches are cool!

  2. I would have been a total wreck – three little ones, with one wounded like that and probably bleeding like crazy…. You really are a very cool Mama. I admire you, and I have seen firsthand how you handle things like this. Remember when I was visiting and Oliver fell and hit his mouth on the bathroom sink? Talk about keeping calm and assessing the situation with grace and intelligence. No wonder your boys are self-assured and feel safe. What a great Mom you are.

  3. Oh, man! That looks painful. I love how Milo and Oliver have matching scars now though. And high five to you for handling 3 boys by yourself in the ER. That’s no easy feat.

  4. That moment when you get the first look and you realize this isn’t an at home treatment situation? THE WORST. I’m so sorry you guys! I hope Milo isn’t in too much pain and that you’re recovering from having all the kids at the ER. That sounds like my nightmare. πŸ™‚ Gus split his forehead open and got a pretty nasty concussion almost a month ago. Managing just him in the ER almost did me in, so I can’t even imagine. Hope you all heal up really soon!

p.s. Gus and Craig now have the same forehead scar and I think stuff like that is kinda cute…although if given the choice, I would have rather he not taken the fall of course. πŸ™‚

  5. Ack! Quelle nightmare! At least, that is one of my nightmares….
Good for you for making it through, with peanut M&Ms and Popsicles to boot!
    You deserve a treat/break!
    xo

  6. Poor Milo! Really though, poor you πŸ™‚ I’m exhausted just at the thought of 5 hours in the ER with three little guys!! Hope he’s feeling better and you get some sleep tonight.

  7. Oh dear. Milo is a tough cookie, but you yourself are a champ for making it through all that. Motherhood hero once again. πŸ™‚

  8. Oh no! I’m actually shocked that this stuff doesn’t happen more often- he looks very brave with his stitches. I can’t imagine wrangling three kids in the emergency room either, another good story for the archives πŸ™‚
