Dress That Mama: Spring Neutrals

DSC_0082

It’s so deceiving, these outfit posts. Not because I don’t actually wear these outfits, but because by the time I post them (this one was taken on the one warm day last weekend, Saturday, before we received a ridiculous amount of snow the next day), the weather seems to be something completely different. And obviously, I wouldn’t be wearing these shoes in a foot of snow. So… add rain boots and a coat and hat, and that’s more like today!

Generally, I don’t dress in a lot of color. But when I do, it’s usually something subdued, like these yellow corduroy pants, or it’s bright red like a dress I’ve been dying to wear when it is warmer… maybe next week? We can hope???

Flower button-down in neutrals: Anthropologie several years ago- I had trouble finding a similar pattern, but similar color way here

Sweater: Anthropologie (my most-warn sweater this year by far!)

Yellow corduroys: Pilcro (find similar here)

Shoes: Rachel Comey

And my wise friend Mary once told me that people tend to dress the same way they decorate their homes– which would explain a lot! Our home is mainly various shades of neutrals and neutral patterns, with pops of color here and there (like our bright blue dining room!). And Mary, whose style I love, is all about color and brightness. I think it suits her personality. How about you? Do you dress the way you decorate?

Happy Wednesday, and happy spring!

  1. I think Mary may be on to something, which means, however, I am as random a dresser as I am a decorator. I do feel inspired by both your personal and nest feathering style, but can’t resist those bold colors as well.

  2. Love those pants! I used to wear corduroy’s all the time and now I’m not sure where they’ve all been hiding. My belly is too big to button them at the moment anyway… but they’re looking great on you.

  3. That would explain a lot about my dress. Everything in our house is eclectic and doesn’t necessarily match (by society’s standards) so that explains my wardrobe! You ARE SO CUTE. I need you to come and dress me.

  4. ha! I had never considered that but YES! I do dress the way I decorate, if you call what I do in the home “decorating”. Ha, color wise though my home is similar to my clothes. I LOVE COLOR! And so does Craig…he married me in a bright pink floral shirt. 🙂

If you get inspired in the kitchen in the next week or find something in your archives, please let me know. Would love to have something form your kitchen in the next issue! Remember.. simple is the name of the game this issue. 🙂 🙂 Also- totally your sister on the winter blues thing. This one was especially tough. Hoping that means spring and summer are going to be extra amazing!

  5. I’m convinced you could wear anything. Sometimes I’m browsing my favorite shops and think of you. As in…”OMG, that’s adorable. I could never pull it off but I bet Lauren would look amazing in it.” A shame we don’t live closer…you might be getting impromptu presents from me at all times!

  6. I agree with your friend Mary. My house is fairly minimal and so is my wardrobe. But I do tend to like MCM pieces and I don’t dress like I’m from that era, lol.

  7. Very cute outfit and I love your hair too. I am so done with this cold weather, I’m all ready for a bit of spring clothe wearing now.

  8. I just love all the little details that show up even in your most subdued outfits. The flowers, the lace, the shoes, the collars, all lining up perfectly to make things interesting, yet stylish. You, my friend are one classy lady.

  9. Seeing some of your more neutral outfits inspired me before our Jamaica trip. I got a black knit dress, and a gray knit dress…can you believe it?! : )
ME with no pop pf color in Jamaica!?
