Summer of Friends

We had another action-packed weekend with friends! Since we dragged our feet on planning a family vacation this summer, we decided to have a few vacations “in,” exploring DC’s playgrounds and having friends and family come from all over come to visit. Saturday, Mary, Jamie, and Ben came in from Baltimore to stay for the day. In the morning, we took the boys to Turtle Park, where they have a playground with a huge sandbox, climbing equipment, and best of all, a splashground with water toys and different-sized fountains to run through.

Milo is not a fan of spraying water…

… but did enjoy jumping into the pools of water that collected on the outskirts of the splashground.

In the afternoon, while Milo and Ben took a nap upstairs, we prepared a feast of marinated grilled eggplant and summer squash, canteloupe soup, homemade pesto and pasta, tomato, basil, and mozzarella salad, and white bean and garlic scapes dip for the adults and welcomed Kathy and Frank, our friends from Philadelphia, and their 4-month-old Jackson. When the boys woke up, they joined us and we attempted a photo:

Which obviously didn’t go too well. The above is what happens when you try to get two toddlers to stop playing for 3 seconds.

We had a great time and said good-bye to everyone at around 5:00pm to collapse in a heap in the living room. Ah, summer!

  1. Lauren,

I just had to tell you that your yard looks beautiful! I don’t know why you guys ever head off to a park! We can’t wait for Milo and Jack to see each other again- now that Jack is a actually a little “person” they will have so much fun. Hope you’re feeling okay!

    Kelly
