Last Thursday, we got a pretty good amount of snow. Enough to close the boys’ preschool on Thursday and need to shovel the car out the next morning. It was strange snow; the kind that falls in huge chunks and looks like fluffy cotton suspended in the air, followed by sleet and freezing rain which created a nice ice crust on the top. Strange snow, but perfect for sledding, as we found out Saturday morning.
So early Saturday morning, we pulled the boys to Winslow’s Home for hot drinks, then pulled them back up the hill to the field next to their future elementary school for some serious sledding. The sun came out mid-morning and man was it bright! But the sunshine made the cold not-so-cold, so it was just the right kind of weather for hurling your body down an icy hill.
We stayed all morning, skipping Emil’s nap and only pulling ourselves away when exhaustion and hunger led us to believe it was somewhere near lunchtime. We must have been a spectacle: all five of us laughing and acting so goofy and screaming bloody murder while we swooshed down the hill. When the boys are all a bit older, we will brave the bigger hills, like the infamous Art Museum hill. But for now, Emil’s loud chuckles led us to believe that we chose a good spot!
Saturday afternoon we spent with friends Elisha and JJ and their sweet girls, eating the best guacamole I’ve ever had, messing around with mustaches and bow ties and glasses party favors, and oooing and ahhhing over Elisha’s craftiness (she recently built a new kitchen table out of reclaimed wood- it was gorgeous!) until Oliver pulled out the old naughty card and we had to go home early.
Oh, and we brought over these cream puffs, the recipe of which I will be happy to share with you tomorrow if you’d like?
So I guess I can say that though we are almost through all of our firewood that we had collected (for free… more on that later) last summer, and the snow is mostly turned to slush by now, and I am ready to feel cool grass and squishy mud under my bare feet… we were truly joyful this weekend at our sledding luck. Hope you had a good one too!
You’re so lucky! By the time that storm hit Indiana it was all sleet and ice. We ended up with almost an inch of ice in some places. We couldn’t walk on it, drive on it, or anything. So we just stayed home and had a pajama day instead.
Ha! We live close enough to each other to have twin posts at times 🙂 We soaked in all the snow before it melts, too, and just really enjoyed the heck out of it. Love your sledding pictures, everyone looks so shiny and happy!
This looks like a perfect weekend. The snow and friends and smiles and sledding. If I can’t have summer sunshine, I want some sledding snow.
Winter reboot, you guys look like you had so much fun sledding. We just got a fancy new sled and are looking forward to testing it out. And I’m not sure if this is the first time I’ve seen your hair down in a while, but it’s so long! You look happy and beautiful.
I love the sledding pictures so much! Bright and cheery and just awesome! Glad you had a good weekend. xo
That looks stupendous! I love sledding. It never got snowy enough here to go sledding. (Sad face!) But, we might be getting some tonight! (fingers crossed!)
Wow, this was exactly how I had envisioned our snow day, and so clearly not the case. What fun. That sled, the stop for snacks, and their sweet wind chapped cheeks. I can’t imagine waking up to that beautiful snow. I just can’t.
We are SO Cali. It hurts. literally.
🙂
That looks like a ridiculous amount of fun! And your snow suit is awesome. It looks like a snowsuit and a mechanic’s jumpsuit had a lovechild and it was your rad outfit. I have been really hoping for a snow that would enable us to do some serious sledding too, but so far nothing good.
The bunny! Is that the bunny that Emil looked so perplexed about?
Ahh, the old naughty card. My kids know it well. Once, we had a friend over for dinner while his wife was out of town. We had dinner early and then both kids started acting like such beasts that he got this overwhelmed look on his face and said, “It’s the Wilson Hell Hour!” and busted out of our house so fast. Naughty card indeed.
Ha, ha! Allison- Oliver calls me Bob the Builder when I wear that suit! Andrew’s mom gave it to me one Christmas years ago. It is funny looking, but sure is warm! And yes, that is the bunny Emil was watching out our back window! That bunny loves our back yard and we often see it back there munching on grass and clover. It’s so cute!
