Weekend Shenanigans

This weekend was one of cheesecake-and bread-baking, reading, cleaning, and fort-building. We didn’t go anywhere special, but it sure felt cozy by the fireplace, as Andrew kept a fire going most of the weekend. There were even a few naps for those who don’t usually nap so the house was extra quiet.

Emil has finally started taking an interest in books (sigh of reliefand I keep freaking out when he is too quiet, only to look around the corner at this scene. Such a studious young man, no?

And Milo’s pretend-play has gone to a whole new level- a detail that is not lost on Oliver, who seems eager to be a part of his elaborate imaginative games. DSC_0114

And though dinnertime has become quite the battleground with Oliver (stubborn as a mule and not a bite of vegetables in weeks!), all-in-all it was a great, relaxing end to last week, and a lovely way to start this week. Hope this finds you well!

  1. You have a way of capturing the quiet moments beautifully without the pretense that everything is flawless – lots of emphasis on good stuff, an occasional reality check, but not too much dwelling on the rough stuff. Your ability to convey the balance as it leans one way and then another is so comforting. And it is a good reminder of how great the slow, in-between moments are when you’re parenting small children.

  2. Oh, thank you, Adah! Things are far from perfect around here, but we are definitely enjoying the slow, in-between moments. What a kind thing to say!

  3. Lauren- I love these pictures! Especially the first three, Milo and the animals, and then Oliver and the fire.. What a fantastic weekend! Also- it took Gus longer than I was comfortable with to get into books. I totally get the sigh of relief!

  4. Sounds a lot like our weekend – it’s been so cold (for us Californians) and gray! Not my fave.

And goodness gracious, what kind of pie did you make?! It looks so very good.

Love that little bum by the fire. 🙂

  5. I love your everyday pictures. 🙂

Not sure how your mommy heart feels about it, but I tend to hid veggies in everything so if she doesnt choose to eat the ones I serve, I secretly know that she’s getting them anyways!

  6. Meagan– I definitely do this. In fact, I will be posting a recipe next week about it! I used to hate the idea of hiding veggies, but I’ll take any and all ideas when it comes to getting healthy foods into that Oliver’s body!

  7. Perfect weekend! Great pictures, especially little bare bums in front of the fire. Come to think of it, your house has a lot of nudity! So does ours 😉

  8. Looks like such a good weekend, and I love your hair… and sweater… very nice look! Looking forward to that recipe, you know I’m not sure that I’ve ever made a cheesecake. Strange right?!

  9. HOW do you do that to your hair? It’s amazing. Fact: When I try to do any kind of braids in my hair, it looks like I was a volunteer at a beauty academy for blind people with no hands. It’s just the worst.

What is with very small people needing to be naked? They just do. There is much nudity in our house, and a lot of me saying, “It’s freezing outside, put some clothes on!!” But, like the honey badger, they don’t care.

I am impressed with and envious of your rather large herd of animals.
