Red Wiggler Farm

This morning Andrew, Milo, and I decided to forgo the downtown 4th of July parades so that we could take advantage of our friends Marybeth & Eben’s farmshare at Red Wiggler Farm in Germantown, MD. Since they were out of town, they offered us their share of lettuce, beets, turnips, summer squash, zucchini, head lettuce, spring onions, cucumbers, garlic scapes, chard, radishes, and kohlrabi, as well as fresh herbs and wildflowers. Now our refrigerator is filled to the brim with enough greens to feed a small army of vegetarians, and I am both excited and overwhelmed by the amount of delicious fresh produce we have to cook with and eat! What a special treat!

The bounty we collected was just one perk of our trip. Milo had a blast exploring the barn, the wildflower fields, and the farm equipment, although I could not get him to help me pick any herbs. That would require standing still for a few seconds!

And with what did we manage to take so many pictures on this lovely trip, you ask?  Our NEW CAMERA!!!! Finally! I am totally pleased with our purchase and so glad we didn’t decide to replace our old point-and-shoot with another of the same quality. I think I will actually take more pictures with this camera (even though it is bulkier than my old one) because it makes it so easy to take beautiful shots.

Happy Independence Day to everyone, and stay tuned for more pictures! We plan to venture downtown this afternoon and brave the crowds before a little family BBQ.

  1. Happy Fourth of July! What a gorgeous day for taking great photos! The flowers are in bloom, as well as ‘Mama Lauren’. So glad you are keeping with the family tradition of vegie-picking. It is such a good experience for Milo (even though he’s so young) to eat what his family picked that same day. Have a fun afternoon, you guys! Love you.
