Do you have a fall uniform? Meaning, an outfit that you wear again and again, maybe because it is comfortable, or warm, or makes you feel good, etc. Well, this is one of mine. Though the black cotton of my leggings and tunic are faded to different shades of charcoal by now, I cannot stay away from this simple pairing. The Pendleton scarf is my favorite, snagged from a blowout after-Christmas sale at Anthropologie last year (for $15!!!) and the boots are new, an investment I’m so pleased that I made. I’ve already broken them in and know I will get a lot of wear out of these!
… But oh! The hair! Trying to grow out my bangs and badly needing some color… one thing at a time, I guess.
Cotton tunic: Alternative Apparel (find similar here); Wool scarf: Pendleton (similar); leggings: Hue; booties: H by Hudson
What’s your fall uniform?
*** P.S. – Check out part two of my guest post today over at Slow Mama!***
This is a really great look. Understated and elegant – but comfy and fun. The boots are so cool!!! You’re one pretty mama!
Adorable boots! Love the color. And my fall uniform definitely involves leggings. I am currently in love with the wunder under leggings from lululemon. I love that they have some weight to them so my bum doesn’t feel like it is flapping in the breeze!
The boots are amazing! Your’s looks like a more stylish version of my fall uniform… It’s so cold here suddenly that I’m quickly transitioning to my winter uniform. I even pulled out a big down coat last night!
I’m in love with those boots.
I have a few long skirts in various colors that go with basically anything. I wear them all the time in the winter with canvas sneakers or boots. I like to wear skirts or dresses on the weekends mostly because I have to dress like a man all week. A working man. A breast-feeding working man. So I avoid my jeans on weekends.
Hi Lauren, I’m visiting your site from SM- I loved your posts and your website- I will definitely be visiting all the time now. (I also really love your outfit- especially that scarf!)
I’m in the process of repainting my living room and I have been looking for a good gray…can you tell me what yours is? If you don’t mind sharing…
You always look so effortlessly beautiful which I think is a wonderful thing. My fall uniform is usually a pair of comfy corduroys, some moccasins and a warm sweater or thermal of some sort, but this year things are a bit challenging with everything fitting a little snug and having to have easy access for breastfeeding.
Thanks, ladies!
Alissa, the gray color in our living room is Restoration Hardware’s Atmosphere, but just to warn you it has a lot of blue undertones, which I wasn’t expecting (I was looking for more gray, and this changes a lot with the lighting throughout the day)— this could be a good thing if that’s what you’re looking for. Another fantastic gray is Benjamin Moore’s Timber Wolf (?). I highly recommend Benjamin Moore paint over Restoration Hardware if you have small kids. The former holds up much better to wiping, etc.
Loved the post and love your style, both here and on Slow Mama!
I do wear leggings and a tunic now, but I feel more secure it them as a pregnant person. It seems like a great look for pregnant ladies, too, doesn’t it?
Great boots. I wouldn’t have picked them for the back detail, but maybe I will reconsider now! I like that warm honey brown. Looks great!
I was growing out my bangs but my hair girl misunderstood and trimmed them. So I am bangy for the winter I think.
I thought your living room was a blue-grey color! It does really read blue in some of your natural light shots.
Gorgeous boots! Gorgeous everything! I’m definitely in need of some tweaks to my fall uniform, and those boots are an inspiration, for sure. Footwear is always tricky for me for some reason. But skirts yes and tights yes, and the shoes…we’ll, I’ll figure that out eventually!
You are one stylish lady. And your hair is so cute! I am trying to grow my bangs out, but I can never figure out how to do stuff like that cute twisty tie up thing you did with yours. If I were rich, I’d hire you to be my Fairy Wardrobe Stylist.
Loving that scarf – SO cute! I spend fall living in light weight sweaters, boots, jeans/leggings and a leather jacket.
Dear Lauren,
I am new to your blog (found it because you just commented on mine 😉 ). I love your outfit so much, and I had to smile so big just now because my fall outfits all look like that: leggings, dress or tunic, scarf and boots!
Am l
ooking forward to exploring your blog.

You got THE boots!! So awesome. They look amazing.
I personally love this uniform look and I think it would be perfect for my growing pregnant belly too. I’ve got to research some maternity leggings though because all of mine just slowly inch down my thighs throughout the day. Ugh!
Loved your guest post at Slow Mama too – re-inspired to clear out some toys!

Love the scarf. I have a winter uniform of black jeans, black boots, a (you guessed it) black jumper or longsleeve tee & a bright scarf. Love winter clothes. So cozy & forgiving.
Cortnie– YES! I got the boots. I figured after all the closet-cleaning and selling of old stuff… in with a few new things! And ONLY stuff I love, even if that means it takes two or three months to save up for it!
Lauren, thank you so much for the paint color. I had heard that about RH paints so that Timberwolf shade is fantastic. Thank you for sharing!
You look just gorgeous in your fall uniform, Lauren. I love scarves and charcoal as well, though this past fall (it’s spring now in Sydney), I ended up wearing mainly jean with, slouchy top and an oversized coat with plenty of room to move. Oh, and flat ankle boots. They are the best!

Lauren, this fit looks great! Looks like something I could throw on in the morning and still look amazing! As you do. I love stopping by your site for a dose of inspiration. The family looks great.
love love love this outfit, Lauren! How amazing are those booties?! SO amazing.
Lauren, I LIVE for your outfits!!! Super cute! Im gonna have to check this blog out more often! Are you still doing any counseling at all?
Aw, thanks Derrick! So great to hear from you! And no, I am not counseling anymore, but it sure feels like it after a long day with these boys! 🙂
