Dress That Kid: Comfy Layers

DSC_0005

It’s now chilly enough in the mornings for a couple layers for the boys on their walk to school. Milo is always freezing… except when he’s not, which usually means he’s overheated! Oliver never really complains about being hot or cold, but his hands are always requiring gloves these days!

Today was a sweatpants kind of day. I think there are plenty of great styles of sweatpants that are comfortable and stylish, so there’s no need to feel like a slacker for putting your kids in warm, comfy clothes.

I may have done a happy dance when I found Emil’s brand new Minnetonka moccasins for $5 in a kids consignment shop last month…

On Oliver: Hat: brought back from Andrew’s 2008 trip to Peru; navy blue tank: BabyGap; striped henley: Crewcuts (Milo’s hand-me-down); sweatpants: Crewcuts (also Milo’s hand-me-down); boots: Blundstone (a gift from Ingrid)

On Milo: Hat: bought at the Tower Grove International Festival last year; scarf: Crewcuts (thrifted); thermal henley: Crewcuts (on sale last year); sweatpants: TeaCollection; shoes: New Balance (also on sale last year– but these shoes are the most durable Milo has ever owned, so maybe worth buying at full price).

On Emil: Hat: brought back from Peru (but I have seen similar ones at arts and crafts fairs in several different cities); shirt: BabyGap (on sale now- but we snagged it for an extra 40% off in-store); sweater: thrifted (tags cut out); pants: Bond (a gift from a friend in Australia and one of my favorite brands of children’s leggings); moccasins: Minnetonka ($5! $5!).

Hope you’re enjoying this “sweater weather” as much as we are!

  1. Those fellas look cuddly cozy. I could definitely get my kids into that stuff but I have to ask you, do the boys ever push back against your wardrobe choices? I get push back every day, and not just from the queen (who refuses to wear any pants but leggings under the perpetual dresses) but from Liam as well. It seems that by merely suggesting something, they automatically oppose it. Picture day today should be a hoot.

  2. Oh, man, Annie! That sounds so frustrating! I generally get zero pushback about clothes– as long as they’re comfortable, they don’t seem to care! Though some random mornings, Milo expresses a strong need to dress up in a bow tie…

  3. So cute! I’ve had somewhat of a difficult time dressing Alice as I am drawn more to the layering and muted colors rather than the ruffles and pastels and, since she has NO hair to speak of, she ends up looking like a boy.

But I just got some cute fall-ish stuff that is subtly girly. Luckily the temperatures are cooperating!

(One of my friends has a clothing company that I think you’d love. Check out their little boy stuff! http://store.mabokids.com/category/boys A bit pricey but it’s great quality (and she has great sales). Plus it’s all made in the USA!)

  4. There is something about kid’s in hats… best thing ever! They look so cute and fall-ish. I love the look of Minnetonka moc’s but for some reason they slide off W’s heal (so do Tom’s shoes actually so maybe it’s just him). I’m still in the hunt for fall/ winter little boy shoes. My favorites always seem to be ridiculously expensive- bummer.

  5. Briana- I checked out your friend’s clothing- it is gorgeous! Will definitely bookmark that!

And Julie, Emil’s hat is a mixture of crochet and sewn patches, I think.

  6. i love how you dress them. we love crewcuts too and scored so much last year in miami on sale – guess they didn’t really sell a lot of their cooler weather clothes like other stores may have. we have the same green sweatpants. i love moccasins too and stripy leggings on little ones. speaking of leggings – great cable knit pair at h&m right now for boys. both our boys have them. perhaps i’ll have to do a post one of these days!
