Just snapped a few pictures from around the house as we have been moving things around a bit. Plus, the light has become so pretty in its early October softness, I couldn’t resist!
After my mom brought us this incredible antique corner cupboard all the way from Ohio on her last visit, we had to find the perfect place for it… which meant the piano got a new home in the living room and we moved a comfy chair into the dining room. It has totally changed the feel of our downstairs in the best way. I think everything feels cozier and warmer. I have never owned a piece of furniture like this before, and I have to say I am totally smitten. Is it wrong to stand and gaze at a piece of furniture just a little too long? And now I can actually see a few of my favorite serving dishes and teacups.
My mama knows me so well. A little over a year ago, she brought me a stick from her woods with amazing little dried mushrooms growing all over it. I keep it on the windowsill above my kitchen sink and look at it every time I do dishes and think of her.
Also, we have been having quite good luck with growing things indoors, thanks to the amazing big windows and tons of natural light we get in our home. We have succulents everywhere (easy to keep alive + don’t need too much water or fussing), but I found this staghorn fern last month and am hoping not to kill it I love it so much!
I think as the weather grows cooler, I tend to refocus my attention on the inside of our house– perhaps because I anticipate we will be stuck inside more frequently in only a month or so! I have a couple of projects up my sleeve in the upcoming months in updating and simplifying a couple of the rooms in the house that could use a few tweaks (for instance, better storage in the boys’ shared room and switching out pictures and perhaps even a fresh coat of paint if I have enough left over in the basement… ). We’ll see how it goes!
I love that corner hutch. What a perfect way to display your beautiful dishes!
Ugh. Two of my succulents just died after only 2 weeks under my care!! Honestly, though, they looked a bit ratty before I even planted them so I am chalking up their deaths to their ill-health before I even got my hands on them. 🙂
Your home is beautiful!
Your home is lovely. I love the piano’s new home! And that cabinet….just awesome!
That hutch is perfect, and your new dishes look so nice in there…your mom BROUGHT it with her? Wow. I really like your grey walls, I know I’ve asked before but what color is it, especially in the stairwell? Also, did you do anything to that stump or it that nice all by itself?
I love your house (all those windows & all that space!) and the new hutch is beautiful. I’m also feeling the need to make some changes inside now that the weather is colder and I’m staring more at these walls- of course our space is pretty small so everything is a puzzle. I’m waiting until after the time change when the night’s start at 5- yikes!
I love your house and the things you choose to put in it. Also, your color scheme. (Did I tell you that to fully up my creeperness, I chose to buy that blue color for my living room? Eeep.)
How do you keep so many plants around, at such a low level? I really want to set up a table near our front big windows in our living room, but I feel like Audrey would knock them down constantly, or my crazy dog would try to eat them.
That corner hutch is the best. I have always wanted one and really love seeing them in other people’s homes. You know what else I think is great? Murphy beds and secretary desks. I need those things in my home one day.
Your home is gorgeous. I love the antique cupboard. Pieces like that really bring character to a home. I have been focusing on organizing and beautifying our home too…preparing for winter! 🙂
Annie– the color is from Restoration Hardware, but I would not recommend their paint. I love the color, but the paint quality is not up to par (does not withstand wipe-downs as well as I would like). I would recommend Benjamin Moore, I think there is a similar color called Gray Dove or something. I’ll check into it!
And the stump table is untreated– very dry after years of being indoors. Eventually I may seal it at least, but for now I love it as it is!
Oh, and Allison– I know what you mean about plants and kids. The rolling cart with all the plants on it is actually on our landing going up the stairs (and there is an always-closed baby gate that discourages curious hands… at least for now!
Ahh, your house is SO pretty. Give me long distance lessons? I just don’t have an eye for that stuff. Also, your mom sounds amazing!!
I am in love with your home and envious of all of that wonderful natural light. So much beauty. And your mom? She just keeps sounding more and more amazing and like such a blessing to have as your own. I’m glad to hear you cherish her as much as you do. <3
i love these corners and how you bring life inside. succulents have always been my favorite to grow in the past. i was so sad that when i went to visit my dad for three weeks over the summer, i accidentally left a 7 year old succulent arrangement to die. : (
Lauren, it’s been way too long! I have so much catching up to do.. look at your new header/logo! I love it. And I love this post. You know I’m always a fan of how you decorate, especially with all the little touches that have bigger meaning 🙂 Hope all is well with you 5! xo
