Milo is at a fantastic age right now. His vocabulary expands daily, and it is fun to see what is important in his life based on what words he learns, such as “Elmo,” “Ernie,” “car,” “backpack” (that he rides in for walks), “all gone,” “oh no!” “cracker,” “night-night,” “basketball,” “cake-y” (a muffin or cake), “yuck,” and of course, “yes” and “no-no!” (which he says while pointing at our time-out spot). Some funny words also come out, like “sock” which he so conveniently pronounces “cock.” I couldn’t make this stuff up.
And just as much fun… the funny things Milo does. Like crawl into places he can’t get out of. This happens quite often. He has been known to get stuck in baskets, drawers, behind chairs, and in pots.
He is faster, too. This shelf-climbing happened as soon as I had turned my back. Crazy how fast he is now! He literally RUNS everywhere, all the time. A friend with a little girl Milo’s age commented on Milo’s busy running yesterday as she hosted a playdate at her house.
Last night, as I was running Milo’s bath, he ran into the other room, grabbed a pillow, ran back into the bathroom, and threw the pillow into the tub full of water before I even knew he had a pillow. Then, as I grabbed the pillow and put it on a towel to dry, I heard a telling splash, turned around, and found my little friend in the tub, fully clothed, looking rather surprised. Yes, he can now jump into the tub by himself. All of this happened in about 20 seconds, no joke.
So I have to step up my game a bit. Which would be easier, if I had a kid who actually slept. Regular wake-up time for Milo is now 5:30am on the dot. If we keep him up a little later as suggested by many friends and family members, wake-up time conveniently stays the same. And naptime has become a struggle again, with the earliest down-time not until about 1:30 or 2:00pm. That is if I want any results. He will cry and fuss for hours if I try any earlier. Last Sunday, I think Milo spent most of the day in his crib as I attempted naptime and to show him who was boss. Apparently, he is, because there was no nap that day.
Good thing he is so stinkin’ cute!
My theory on all this is that he is going through another learning streak with language, and he just can’t shut off his brain for that long. Well, whatever it is, it is both adorable and horribly annoying all wrapped up in one. Welcome to toddlerhood! Funny thing is, I am absolutely loving Milo at this age!
I love the pillow in the bathtub story-crazy! Maybe little girls ARE slightly more sedate than boys, or maybe less creative…Despite the associated headaches of his mischief, I’ll bet you can’t wait to see what he comes up with next! His angelic looks are deceptive, aren’t they?
In this instance, tough love comes into play…just leave him there, and in a few months, his legs will be long enough for him to get down by himself!!! You know, cause and effect works every time. Oh, just kidding! That video was SO funny. Milo is the great explorer!
Love, Mom
