Dress That Kid: Mixing Patterns

Serious faces

I promise, I don’t color-coordinate the kids. But some days, like today, I notice a common  color and it freaks me out a little. Or some days I’ll dress them all in stripes and have no idea until someone points it out to me! So strange. I guess today, I was really feeling this lemony-limey color!

Also, again, the bandana is serving a purpose: Oliver’s hair-containment. This guy refuses to let me touch his hair, so I guess we’re growing it out (at least until he lets me cut it)! And Milo is rockin’ the stripes + plaid. Personally, I think it works!

On Emil: Dandelion kimono onesie: Speesees (from 2007– how cute is this hanky?); Pants: Nordstrom Rack; Sandals: Janie & Jack (Milo & Oliver’s hand-me-downs)

P.s.- We are in the market for some new shoes for Milo & Oliver for the fall, as they have clearly worn out the ones they have. I love these and these. Do you have any favorite shoes or boots for your little ones? We need sturdy, sturdy, sturdy!

  1. Adorable outfits as usual. What I’m really having trouble with is how old Oliver looks here!!! Maybe it’s just that tough guy face..haha

  2. Why are stripes and plaid such a taboo? I always really love the way they look together. Milo rocks that look.

Also, I know they’re widely considered hipster and kind of douchey, but I really love Tom’s for little kids. Both of my kids have them, and they’re comfortable, light, and very, very durable. And there’s always the bonus of having a kid get a free pair of shoes.

  3. This phenomenom happens to me, too! In addition I’ll notice my clothes match the kids as well.

Your kids have great names. I also have a little blonde Milo. We considered Oliver for my eldest but went with ‘Levi’ instead.

  4. Awesome outfits! Comfy and stylish! We have major shoe issues around here…meaning Jack won’t wear any…. I just bought him bright blue sperry’s at Nordstrom rack (he picked them out) and so far so good. They seem super supportive and comfy inside for a canvas shoe! Good luck with the hunt. I actually love both option!

  5. Handsome bunch! I always have people tell me that I match Wyatt. I think I just shop for him the way I do for myself so that means similar colors, stripes… the odds are there!

I love those converse wings too. I haven’t figured out what we will do for shoes when fall weather rules out sandals… looking forward to seeing what you pick 🙂

  6. Oliver looks like such a total badass. Especially in pic #6. (And, omg, Emil’s chubby little ankles!)

  7. As far as durable – for the past three years, I’ve bought Jack Keens in April and he wears them until October. And they still look new! I’m amazed with them; he wears them pretty much every day. I know they have lots of styles on their website that aren’t sandals. Love the wings though!

  8. Your little guys always kill me with their cuteness!! I love plaids and stripes together. We just had a family photo shoot where one of the boys was in checks and patchwork!

Wish I had a fab shoe recommend but we’ve only worn Converse velcro straps (great), Gap velcro tennis (also great) and now Target Avengers Vans style slip ons…..I’ll get back to you on those.
