Today was a beautiful day for the zoo. Unfortunately, not all things at the zoo are beautiful. Take, for instance, Milo’s favorite creature, the molerat. I am not squeamish. When I was a kid, I thought dissecting stuff was cool. But I kid you not, this animal is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen.
And the picture doesn’t show the grotesque way this thing moves through a transparent rat tunnel. Or should I say, pulsates through. But Milo likes ’em.
The photo that inspired the title of this blog
Milo and best buddy Ben had a blast in the “small mammal house” checking out the molerats and the small monkeys and squirrel-like creatures. It was hilarious watching these two tear through the hall, going from one cage to another. This is the first time they have gotten together since Milo learned to walk. Milo has some catching up to do with his physically-superior friend, who can already catch a ball at 16 months old… but he had a good time trying to chase Ben around in the picnic area.
Are the giraffes back from Florida. I know they went there while they were redoing the Elephant house. We loved the zoo and probably went every 2-3 weeks. We bought a membership, that way parking was free also, and we got discount tickets to some of the other cool events. The girls loved the animal houses (small animal, ape, and Amazonian houses), because they could get up close and see the animals. I think we are going to end up joining down here, since we find ourselves there about once a month.
What fun, it was this time last year that Ava just started walking and she walked all over the zoo during the zoo’s promotion “Jungle Book” Adventure.
Eeewww. That thing IS disgusting. The molerat, not Milo. He’s adorable. We belong to our zoo, too, although the weather is just now getting bearable enough (for me). Reina loves the monkeys and the giraffes.
Wish we could all get our own zoos together more. Looks like last weekend was fun!
Oh, the wee little molerat!! It has a face only a mother could love! It’s so funny how little boys are fascinated by such creatures…makes one wonder what Milo will give you for your birthday present since the woods are right in your own back yard!!!!
Love, Mom
