Flying

We’ve been stuck inside quite a lot lately. Last summer when we had this kind of heat wave, I was pregnant with Emil, and still took the boys outside. We sat on the back deck, fan blowing on us while we played in water. But this summer, Emil is still a baby. He melts in the heat. His little face turns bright pink and sweat soaks the back of his head. He is miserable outside, so we keep him comfortable, which means a lot of afternoons are spent indoors. And there’s only so much library time we can handle. Besides, doing this at the library is frowned upon:DSC_0051

Afternoons indoors make for compromises. Compromises like, Okay, you can jump off the ottoman a zillion times with your super hero capes/bat wings/Thor helmet as long as you promise to stop running and screaming indoors.

One afternoon, they had a flying contest. Insisting they were not jumping but flying instead. And though it took some time, after a while, I started to believe them. DSC_0021

Oliver was a late “jumper.” But now, oh now. He is jumping off of everything! And Milo. Well, you know, he is a seasoned jumper.

Maybe I should get Milo back into ballet?

P.s.- Is today Friday the 13th? Perhaps one should refrain from crazy jumping on a day like today?

  1. I really enjoy reading your posts…your boys are beautiful. I have only 1 girl and some days wished I had boy “bats” flying around..enjoy them!

  2. This post made me laugh out loud! What a fun mom you are! my little guy just started crawling, so I can’t wait to see him flying 🙂

  3. I hope your house is well built and fragile things are nailed down. I just keeping thinking of movie Mary Poppins, when the old guy shoots off the 6pm cannon everything, and the whole house has to man their posts to keep things from falling and breaking when their whole house shakes.

  4. Oh, how this is ALL so familiar! Little boys running, screaming, and of course, jumping, in nothing but undies and capes and any other thing that a super hero would wear.
    Love these!

  5. Milo is the world’s greatest jumper- I love all of your pictures of him in flight… and looks like Olver is catching up fast!

  6. This is a really fun series of pictures that I’m sure they’ll both love when they’re older. I am a bit envious of your awesome mom skills.

And to be totally random: What color/brand of paint is the blue in the next room? We are going with a greys and blues thing in our living room, and that blue looks so gorgeous in your house.

  7. Kristin- you have me cracking up about the Mary Poppins comment! That is exactly how it is around here!

And Allison, I WISH I knew the color of the paint, because we need to touch it up and I cannot find the paint chip OR the old can from the paint… all I know is I got it from Home Depot, probably the Martha Stewart collection (she has some pretty awesome colors) and as soon as I drag myself there to get the chip and match it up, I will let you know. It is by far my favorite color room in the house and it changes as the light changes throughout the day. Highly recommend!

  8. Every time my not-so-little-anymore-one flies off anything more than an inch off the ground, I think of Milo. I only wish that we could have a flying afternoon together.

  9. Just to further my creepy factor, I went to Home Depot yesterday to stalk the blue paint colors by Martha Stewart. I am not entirely sure, but I think the one you have may be called “Darkening Sky”. And I felt the need to update you with this information because like I said, I’m a creeper. And I’ll probably paint my living room that color. Such a creeper.

  10. OMG!!! Allison! That’s it! Thank you! How on earth did you match that up?! I definitely recognize that name, and you just saved me so much trouble trying to find it. Seriously, thank you. Also, not creepy at all! I would highly recommend that color. Everyone who comes over comments on it (even our friends from Sweden who paint everything white!) and it is my fav color in the house!
