Leucojum (summer snowflake)- some green lovely things for you today!
We always called these flowers “snowdrops” when I was growing up, but I found out that these early spring bloomers are actually called summer snowflakes. Funny, since ours started blooming in early March this year. And last time I checked, March was not summer.
We have been having unseasonably warm weather for the past week (it has hit 80 degrees several times!), causing all the flowering trees, daffodils, and crocuses to bloom. Apparently, we are a full two weeks ahead of schedule with blooming things. We have had all our windows open and it has actually reached 77 degrees in our downstairs during the day. Which is quite toasty, I think.
But I am in no way complaining about this phenomenon. Beautiful weather makes me feel like a happy person all the time, flitting around gardening and getting my hands dirty and feeling the sunshine on my face and eating every meal outdoors and… oh, oh! I started running again! And all these things make me happier than a leprechaun in a field of clovers… or a pot of gold or something.
So let’s hope this spring is here to stay. Happy day to you! And no, I’m apparently not Irish in any way, despite being led to believe so for the majority of my life. Happy St. Patrick’s Day (a day early) anyway!
It was very spring-like here in Boston earlier in the week and now it’s kind of dreary and cool, which is way more normal for this time of year but annoying nonetheless as I am ready for WARM weather!
And my husband is FREAKING OUT because he does not want a St Patty’s Day baby! Because we are in Boston and this holiday is such a big deal here, he’s anti-March 17th for her birthday. I, however, am ready for her to be OUT so any day (even RIGHT NOW) is good for me. 🙂
I love all of these photos- flowers and a cute kid! Makes me so excited for summer. I am Irish and I love St. Patty’s Day, but just because I can make my grandpa’s cabbage soup and soda bread and wear some green.
And to Briana since I’m also in Boston- the holiday is a big deal but only right in the city. We’re out in Belmont and hardly notice it, so I say it’s lucky to be born on St. Patty’s day! Like rain on your wedding day if you say it’s lucky you can’t lose.
I just started running again too kindred spirit!!!!! Feels SO good!
He looks so pleased to be holding those flowers! I have also really been digging this warmer weather. It’s felt so nice to leave the house without a sweater on.
How exciting you’re running again! That’s awesome! These pics of Oliver are sooo cute. How funny that you always thought you were Irish.. did you guys celebrate at all? Corned beef & cabbage perhaps?
