First Day Back

This post was supposed to be about Milo’s first day going back to preschool on Friday. He got all dressed up in a clip-on tie and everything. But then when it was picture time, he asked if he could take the picture holding Baby Emil, and that Oliver should be in the picture too so he didn’t feel too sad about being too little to go to school.

See? Big cheeks already!

And sad he was, especially since he had been able to attend Milo’s orientation last Wednesday and was treated by Milo’s teachers and classmates as a preschool equal, even going out to the playground with the whole group while the parents stayed inside to chat (Andrew is a room parent!). All morning Oliver asked, “Milo?” and sulked a bit when I reminded him that Milo was in school until noon.

Then, I caught them in quite a tender moment.

After we picked up Milo from school (he was crying because he wanted to stay all day) and returned home, Milo and Oliver waited on the front porch as I got Emil out of the car. As I started up the front stairs, I saw Milo hugging Oliver. Really hugging him close, as he said, “I really missed you, Oliver. I’m glad to be back home with you. Don’t worry. Soon you’ll be big like me and YOU can go to preschool too!”

Melt.
