The Beat of a Different Drum…. Very Different

I figured our son would be the unconventional type, given his genetic makeup. He seems to have his own agenda when it comes to nursing, sleeping, eating solids… and now this last subject has taken a turn. Because Milo has recently shown me that he thinks drinking water out of a glass is fun (after having skipped bottle, sippy cup, and straw), I decided to try something new with baby food. Actually, I wasn’t being progressive, just lazy. He had thrown his spoon on the floor one too many times, and I was tired of picking it up. So I just held the little juice glass (what I’ve been trying to spoon feed him out of) close to his mouth and, well…

I guess he will drink his food out of a glass. And though a lot of the pureed mess ended up on his chin, he actually did swallow something other than milk, which makes me very excited. Hey, it only took 3 months of trying!

So here’s to the unconventional, the oddities of the world, the circus freaks, and those who refuse to do anything the way they are “supposed to.” Ah, my Bum.

The Three MuskaBums

On our most recent trip to Ohio, Milo and I met Baby Jack, Milo’s teeny tiny cousin, who my brother and sister-in-law believe was mistakenly switched with Milo… my brother is 6’5, and both he and his wife had blond hair and blue/green eyes- their baby is small and dark! Of course, he is just a newborn and we’re sure he will live up to all the tall/blond hype. I didn’t take any pictures of him for fear of waking him up or damaging his eyes with the flash of the camera. But I will post more as they come!

We also got to meet (finally!) two of my college friends’ baby boys. Amy’s little man, Abram (on the left) and Kasey’s baby boy Max (right). We spent some time together at Kasey’s house and enjoyed the roly-poly babies. Milo had a blast dumping over Max’s toy baskets and going to town, putting each and every toy into his mouth, of course… sorry Kasey! I enjoyed holding Max and Abram. It’s amazing how used to Milo’s weight I have become- it was funny holding younger babies. Amy and Kasey, your babies are adorable and healthy! They are beautiful and so are you both!
What, does Milo stink or something? The next time we get these three together, they will probably be getting into all sorts of mischief.
Speaking of which, Milo enjoyed his first actual television viewing at my brother’s. He was totally zoned out for the few minutes I allowed this! I know, it won’t kill him to see a few cartoons now and then! But you have to admit, the creepy glazed look in his eye is a little troubling. We all walked out of the room into the kitchen and he didn’t even notice. ADD anyone?
And last but not least, I took this picture before we went to Ohio and meant to show it to my brother, Milo’s uncle who sent us this lovely pacifier. Since he won’t keep anything in his mouth that is supposed to be there, I had to hold it in for him for the picture. I hope it was worth it!

We had fun, but glad to be home. Milo took some monster naps today and is already back into his routine. Tomorrow we are going to a baby sign language class, then on Sunday we get to pick up Andrew. I miss him so much, and I know Milo does too. He needs some serious daddy time!

It Won’t Be Long Now….

This is for you, Andrew!

Milo and I made the 10-hour trip (usually an 8-hour affair, sans baby) to Grandma’s house on Monday and just returned today. I don’t want to talk about the trip back. Really. It was that bad. There were tears from Milo and almost from me. But the GREAT news is, the moment we got to Grandma’s house, I put Milo down on his tummy, and he got up on all fours… well, you can see the rest for yourself. An exciting first for our baby boy!

Pretty tired after doing that for about 10 minutes!

I will post more later, but really wanted Andrew to see these videos. Our little man will be crawling in no time!

Fort McBum

Today was a beautiful day in Baltimore… one of many to come. Milo and I took advantage of it the first opportunity we had, and jogged to Fort McHenry. Well, I jogged while Milo fell asleep like a bum in the jogging stroller. When we arrived, Milo continued to doze just long enough for me to set up a mini picnic for one and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Then my little buddy joined me.
Whoops! Milo fell over and just lay there with his eyes closed (it was so bright). He made no attempt to roll over or try to change the situation. Very funny.
A bold seagull looking for snacks:
Milo bird- and boat-watching. He called some gulls over with his high-pitched pterodactyl screech, then wasn’t so sure he wanted them around when they arrived.
All in all, we enjoyed a lovely day. Poor little guy is upstairs all tuckered out from a long afternoon of sitting around, drinking milkie and being pushed around in a carriage. It’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it.

dEer pOP,

Springtime in Baltimore

It’s officially springtime in Baltimore… flowers blooming, 75-degree weather, birds chirping, and April showers. Here are some pictures from yesterday’s visit to the park down the street from our house. Milo enjoyed his first dandelion and (third) swing ride. And after believing that our child is just going to be one of those runny-nosed sick-o’s (he had what appeared to be yet ANOTHER cold), we discovered a single tooth popping through Milo’s top gums!

We are spending the day with Daddy before he leaves for San Antonio for the week. We sure will miss him!
