Pumpkin Patch 2012

DSC_0180

This past weekend was our family pumpkin patch trip. The main purpose was two-fold: to enjoy some good fall festival fun and to meet Andrew’s cousin Keelan’s new baby girl, Arden. We headed to Rombach’s Farm, a family-owned operation that both Andrew and Keelan remember going to as kids!

These two finally look related– it’s all in the expression!

Newest itty-bitty cousin! Welcome to the world, Arden!

There was so much to see and do! I was a little worried that some of the scarier stuff (like the crazy life-sized skeleton pirate who yelled at you if you came close enough) would freak Oliver or Emil out, but the whole thing turned into a fantastic game of run away, come back again to taunt the skeleton, run away again fun:

Emil was oblivious to this game.

… and pretty much everything except for crossing this small bridge over and over again.

The corn field was also a great hit– what is it about kids and corn fields?

We explored the giant pumpkin field, full of cool rotten stuff, before Oliver became Mr. Grumpy-Pants and demanded to be watered and fed:

Dirty and Angry.

And then, the funniest thing happened! We ran into this fellow blogger:

… Erin, and her amazing and beautiful family (they have four of the most adorable, well-behaved little kids, the youngest of which is made of sunshine and giggles and a ton of lead)! Check out her blog here— amazing and hilarious writer (and super brave too)! I mean, I really, really like her and have no idea why we haven’t gotten all 90 of our kids together again… totally our fault, that one. Want to be real-life friends, Erin? Pretty please?

And you know what else is funny? The kids didn’t even ask to buy pumpkins, so we didn’t (they were crazy expensive anyway)! Nope. But don’t worry. Oliver threw a rockin’ tantrum on the way out because he wanted “MOOOOORE LEMONADE! WAAAAAHHHHHH!”

… which we made. Half an hour later, at home.

Good to see some wonderful people, meet two new(ish) babies, and enjoy some fall weather. Sorry we didn’t spend a bazillion dollars at your place, Rombach’s! Oh, wait. No, I’m not.

  1. Wyatt woke up this morning while I was checking this out and he is very fond of this post (and less fond of my typing now without any pictures). He really likes Emil holding the wee pumpkin ๐Ÿ™‚ Why is it that pumpkin patches have such overpriced pumpkins? We have a ‘secret’ pumpkin spot where you can not pick your own but they’re 50 cents per pound which is at least half the typical cost here.

Oliver and Emil look like twins in that photo- swap that hair and I’d never know the difference. Looks like tons of fun as always!

  2. What a great day! Look at all those kids, what chaotic fun. And how cool to run into Erin and family, I have to agree with you about her on all counts. Our own trip to the pumpkin patch this weekend resulted in Billy, not the kids, choosing a 30 pound pumpkin (at .42/lb). I’m not entirely certain what his plans for that pumpkin are, however I believe they may be nefarious in nature.

  3. OH HI! That was great fun seeing you out there. Let’s be friends!

Your photos are so lovely, as always. It helps to have such great subjects. Congratulations on the new cousin-niece! (I have no idea what the title is for that relationship.)

We bought one pumpkin (for TWELVE DOLLARS, sheesh), but will get another from Aldi’s, my fav shopping spot. You can save SO much money when feeing a family of six. Did you know Aldi’s is owned by the same folks as Trader Joes? True story.

  4. I love these photos. Especially little Emil in the big cornfield. it’s the way he’s swinging his arms, and how similar it is to O in the picture right above it.

  5. Aw, man, we’ve GOT to get to a pumpkin patch before October is over – what is happening to October anyway? Can’t believe it’s half over.

I love these pictures, Lauren. It looks like the perfect afternoon activity (and when it turns out to be inexpensive, than yay!)

Emil and Oliver totally look identical in that photo – I love it. I’m loving Oliver’s longish hair too. So cute.

  6. Emil’s face as he’s standing and touching the large pumpkin looks like he’s doing something really important, like naming Plymouth Rock.

Public tantrums are so much fun because you can actually feel warmth from the burning stares of judgment from people.

Audrey’s preschool has a pumpkin patch, and the largest (which isn’t that large at all) kind of pumpkin is $50. That’s a freaking Christmas tree price. For a pumpkin that I could get for maybe $6 at a grocery store. Whaaaaaaaat?
